Suspension trouble. (Left) The crew scrambles to repair the rear suspension components after the first stage. With no time to examine the car after the Prescott Forest Rally two weeks earlier, cracks in the brackets went undetected, only to fail at LSPR. However, the team mended, wired, and welded together new pieces that survived the event. |

Passmore. Rhys Millen and Lauchlin O'Sullivan enjoyed two fast runs on the Passmore stage. It was O'Sullivan's first time as a navigator in many years, but he rose to the challenge and helped Millen drive to a podium finish.

| Passmore. (Right) The first running of the Passmore stage for Halley and Dillon. The strength of the Studbug was tested two stages later when the VW hit a boulder, almost tipping the car over. After it returned to all four wheels, the engine fired right up and the team continued down the road, losing less than 20 seconds in the altercation. Despite the hard impact, the steering remained square and true for the rest of the rally, a testament to the ruggedness of the New Beetle and the safety equipment mandated by the SCCA.

Racing to the podium. Rhys Millen and Lauchlin O'Sullivan on the Gratiot Lake stage, racing hard towards victory. In the end they finished in second place overall, only three seconds behind the eventual winner, a fine result for the first time visitors to Michigan's upper peninsula.

Gratiot and gratitude. Mike Halley set fastest class time on the last three stages of the rally, including this running of Gratiot Lake (left). Halley, center with hat, having accepted his trophy from event organizer Jay Topping, looks on while Craig Peeper, left, shakes hands with Topping.
