Widget Rally Team Buys Mitsubishi-Built Race Car

Will Continue to Race in PGT for Remainder of 2001 Season

Thousand Oaks, California. The Widget Rally Team announced today that they have purchased a PGT-prepared 1992 Eagle Talon built by Mitsubishi (Diamond Star Motors) from Paul Dubinsky's FLX racing team. The purchase was necessary because their previous car, a 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse, lost its transmission in Maine and was retired by the car's owner. "Despite some setbacks this year," noted team driver Lauchlin O'Sullivan, "we plan to finish out the season in Production GT. We can still do well in the championship battle." Co-driver John Dillon noted "I raced with Paul in this car in '99 and have experienced first hand the strength and speed of the car. Plus, Paul and his crew are meticulous in their prep work so we know we'll be getting something reliable and ready to rally. When he offered to sell the car to us, we jumped at the chance."

Lauchlin is one of the best drivers in the country, but he needs a more reliable machine to drive. I think they'll be happy with the choice."

The timing of the transaction and the logistics of the deal (O'Sullivan is in San Francisco, Dubinsky in South Carolina) prevented the Widget team from racing at the Ojibwe Forest Rally (Minnesota) this past weekend, but they plan to finish out the season with their new car. Remaining on the calendar are the Wild West (Washington), Prescott (Arizona), Lake Superior (Michigan), Treeline (California) and Ramada Express (Nevada) rallies.

For 2002, the Widget Rally Team hopes to move into a new Open class or Group N car. Even in their previous vehicle (the rules define a PGT car as an essentially stock vehicle) O'Sullivan has consistently run in the top ten against some heavy duty equipment, so a move into Open should assure the team of regular visits to the podium.

The team is seeking sponsors to help get them into an Open class race car for the 2002 season.
