Widget Team Models for British Communications Company

Nottingham, England. When Cibele Alvarenga of CIE needed a photograph of a rally team for the company's sales brochure, she turned to the Widget Rally Team. Even though the rallyists are based in the U.S.A., thanks to the team's marketing they're known around the world.

"When I first approached John [Dillon, the team's codriver] about photos, I never thought about the geography," reports Alvarenga. "I learned about them from a British web site. Afterwards, it didn't matter. Even though Widget is based in California, they proved they could be of service from halfway round the world."

Said Dillon, "It was a pleasure to work with Cibele. She gave us a chance to demonstrate our flexibility in fulfilling the requirements of potential sponsors even though they're not sponsors themselves."

To accomplish the goal, the team called Bill Rogers of Motorsports Memories to make the pictures and get them properly processed and sized in short order. Because of the time constraints, the team's driver Leon Styles could not participate. Instead, car owner George Plsek, Jr of Tato Motorsports sat in for Styles, donning his driving suit and climbing behind the wheel to pose for the photographs.

Reported Alvarenga, "John and his guys worked hard to make sure our needs were met. We wanted a very particular sort of picture and he delivered on his promise, on time and in the exact format we needed. The Widget team showed their professionalism and commitment to this project in every part of the process."

"We wanted to help Cibele with her company's needs, not only to show our ability to please sponsors, but to help promote our sport," remarked Dillon. "Sponsoring a race car is not as expensive as you might think, but we know that we have a lot of obligations to meet for those sponsors who plan to come on board. This photo shoot helped us exercise our skills in pleasing business partners that might support us."

The team, sponsored by Tombstone Paintball Park, Porterfield Brakes and Shults Dot Com, is currently leading the 2002 California Rally Series championship and is seeking support to compete in the full 2003 SCCA national season.
