Perforce Software Partners with Widget Rally Team

Alameda, CA Perforce Software, known for its fast software configuration management (SCM) system, today announced its sponsorship of the Widget Rally team, a high performance racing team competing on the U.S. rally circuit and a member of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).

"I was lucky enough to get a chance to strap into the Widget Rally Team's car as they raced around a test track," said Nigel Chanter, chief operating officer at Perforce Software. "The team's reputation for speed is very well-deserved! I could make an incredibly accurate analogy here about how both Perforce and the Widget Rally Team car are fast and reliable, but why bother? It was just a hell of a lot of fun!"

A growing sport in the U.S., rally racing combines the rough and tumble action of off-road racing with the glamour and excitement of international sports car racing.

With the help of Perforce, the Widget team is stepping up its efforts in 2003 as it vies for a national championship. The team's Mitsubishi will climb Colorado's formidable Pikes Peak on June 28 at the world-famous Race to the Clouds, and compete in other SCCA ProRally events in Pennsylvania, Maine, Minnesota, Oregon, and Washington.

"Perforce is helping me achieve one of my ultimate dreams, to race up Pikes Peak," noted car owner and driver Leon Styles. "Last year we earned a couple of regional championships, so now we've stepped it up a notch. We'll be scrapping with the big boys for a national title."

Most recently, the Widget Team finished fourth overall at the 2003 Rim of the World Rally, one of ten races that are part of the SCCA's ProRally Championship series. In addition, the team won both ClubRallies at the Palmdale, Calif., event. In 2002, the Widget Team took home driver and co-driver championships for both the California Rally Series and the SCCA's Southern Pacific Division.

About Rally Car Racing
Over hundreds of miles, a driver and co-driver (navigator) in each car race over unfamiliar roads, guided only by written instructions they receive just prior to the start of the event. This route book describes the course in detail with diagrams of turns, notations of water crossings, jumps, spectators, and other course features. The co-driver uses this book as well as local maps, odometers, and even computers to keep the driver on course and on time. The teams race over all kinds of terrain, from mountain passes to desert trails to forest roads, through anything Mother Nature serves up. And, while the fastest car wins, rallying is as much an adventure as a race, testing the strength, stamina, and preparedness of competitor and vehicle alike.
