She wears a serene smile like
A mask or cloak of invisibility.
But suffers silently
Reluctant to share her pain
Afraid to show weakness
Or instability.
Over and over again
Each time she lights up with
The joy or celebration
Of any human connection,
No sooner fades that glow
Then comes the darkness
The disbelief, the punishment;
The denial of pleasure
And worthiness.
Down an abyss so deep
It forms its own vortex
By the sheer density
Of her cold dark tears
Sinking endlessly
Through the void.
